Importing Audio is a breeze using Adobe’s Media Browser. Track 4 is armed and ready for recording. You must arm the tracks you want to record–a great feature that prevents accidentally overwriting audio on an existing track. In the Multitrack view, Audition allows you to select a unique input for each track using a dropdown menu to the left of the timeline. With your mic set and a new file created, just click the red record button at the bottom of the Editor pane. You can record from either the Waveform or Multitrack workspace.īefore recording from the Waveform view, you must set your default input device from the Audio Hardware dialog box and create a new audio file from the File menu. Recording and Importing AudioĬapturing audio in Audition is a straightforward process. Here are a few key features of Adobe Audition, along with my personal take on each feature. While the default layout can be overwhelming, it is easy to customize and close windows. While working in a project, you can switch from Multitrack to Waveform by double-clicking a clip.Īudition retains the classic Adobe suite interface with familiar palettes like History for stepping-back changes and a Tools palette. As part of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of programs, Audition is included in the cost of a CC subscription, but you can also subscribe only to Audition if desired for $20.99 per month.Īudition features two main workspaces: a Waveform view for working with single tracks and a Multitrack view for mixing and editing multiple audio tracks at once. Detailed Review of Adobe AuditionĪdobe Audition is a multitrack editor and audio production application. Over those years, I’ve worked with almost every program in Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite and audio software like Audacity, Reaper, Pro Tools, and Ableton Live. As a former IT Technician, I supported digital cinema hardware and software, including Audition, for over a decade. What I Don’t Like: A lack of MIDI support is unbecoming for a software with such a high price tag. What I Like: Audition sports a large library of effects and audio analysis tools, including broadcast standard presets to ensure compliance with platforms like Spotify and Netflix. The software isn’t cheap, but Audition is a good choice as a serious audio editor–as long as you’re not looking to compose or produce music–especially if you already have a Creative Cloud subscription. The software excels when working with the spoken word, and while it has plenty of features supporting music production, no one would confuse it with a full-blown music DAW like Pro Tools or Logic Pro. With tight integration into its Creative Cloud suite of products, Adobe users will find themselves right at home importing and editing audio projects.Īudition works closely with Adobe Premiere Pro, allowing film editors tools to clean up, enhance, and augment audio with sound effects. The case for Adobe Audition is less clear as a standalone audio editor.Adobe Audition is a powerful audio editor with more bells and whistles than even most professionals could ever want. If you already have a Creative Cloud subscription, Audition is a lovely bonus for when you need to do some audio editing. If you’re already using Premiere Pro, then Audition makes a lot of sense as a very capable audio editor. Its seamless integration with that app is certainly a strong selling point. And Adobe Audition probably only makes sense if you are already using (or going to use) Premiere Pro for your video editing. There are quite a lot of competitors out there for DAWs. But the added benefits are slightly less than with other Adobe apps. You also get access to Adobe Fonts, and there are more than 20,000 of them. Another popular feature is the royalty-free sound effects you can easily add to your podcast or video. This is just one of the many features of Audition that make it a popular choice. Then it will shorten the audio by seamlessly cutting and merging together somewhere in the middle of the track. The video editor sends the audio to Audition and links to the video as well. This is especially useful when used with Premiere Pro. The Remix function makes trimming the length of an audio clip simple, customizable, and automatic. Adobe Audition has a simple one-click fix for that. For instance, the 60 Hz hum that can bedevil recording made on electrical outlet-powered gear. You get a range of clean-up tools to help you fix mistakes in the recorded sound. Podcasters will love its easy, non-destructive editing features and the ability to record directly into the app. But for many others, it’s a great choice. It’s true that Audition is a little light on tools for musicians looking for a DAW. What Comes With Your Adobe Audition Subscription?
